Old Tjikko is a fir tree on Fulufjället in Dalarna, which is said to be the world's oldest known tree clone. It has the soil around the tree found bits of it which, using the carbon 14 dating, was found to be up to 9,550 years old. The tree has had many tribes throughout the years when they only live a few hundred years, which is why the carbon 14 dating was needed instead of just counting annual rings.Parts of the root system has always survived and new elements have emerged, while old ones have died. No "original parts" of the tree is thus alive, but it is genetically the same individual as that grew there for 9500 years ago. The tree was named after the explorer Leif Kull's dog Tjikko.fredag 24 september 2010
